Edward W. Showman, 82, of Connellsville, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at his home while surrounded and comforted by his loving family. He was born July 17, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late Weldon and Ival Gurney Showman. Edward had worked at the Dunbar Powder Plant, Cottom Bus Lines and retired from Groomes Transit as a garage manager. He was a veteran of World War II in the Army and served with the military police in Germany, England and France and obtained the rank of sergeant, His favorite past times were gardening, mowing his lawn and his family. Edward will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving wife, Eva Hess Showman, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 29, 2008; his children, Robert Showman, Jean Kuhns and her husband, Donald, Peggy Wilson and her husband, Mark, Linda Carte and her husband, P.J., Mary Holt and her husband, Bret, all of Connellsville, and Arthur Showman and his wife, Tracy, of Scottdale; his grandchildren, Tonia Thomas and her husband, Sean, Robert Showman Jr. and his wife, Nicole, Vanessa Schell and her husband, Jeff, Michael Kuhns and his wife, Beth, Steven Kuhns and his wife, Traci, Mark Wilson II and his wife, Kelly, Brain Wilson and his wife, Karen, Kurt Wilson, Parker Carte, Andrew Holt, Matthew and Nicholas Showman; his great-grandchildren, Kayla, Sean, Sydney, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Anna, Luke, Shane, Trent, Seth, Ally, Arley, Brooke, Cole and Brennan; his sister, Dorothy Catalina and her husband, Paul, of Maryland; and his sister-in-law, Ruth Showman, of Bear Rocks. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Donald Showman. Family and friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where a funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Dennis Roser officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
