Robert Kenneth Mathias, 57, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born July 8, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the only son of Clyde K. and Dorothy L. (Butler) Mathias, with whom he resided. Bob was a member of the Church of God and the American Legion Post 446, both in Mt. Pleasant. He was a 1969 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Area High School and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam era in Thailand and Okinawa. He attended Army Radio Communications School while in the service. Prior to his retirement in 1998, he was employed for 27 years as a machine operator at Robertshaw Controls, New Stanton. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon Friday in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL SERVICE INC., 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. Pastor Glenn Beatty will officiate. Private interment will be in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Connellsville. Military honors will be accorded by members of the American Legion Post 446 in the funeral home.
