David Copeland Obituary

David Robert Copeland, 67, of Elizabeth Township, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2015. He was born Sept. 12, 1948, in McKeesport, and was a son of the late Robert L. and Dorothy Gallatin Copeland. He was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, Elizabeth Township, White Oak American Legion Post 0701, Central Lions Club and the NRA. David was also a life member of the McKeesport Sportsmen's Association. He was a retired corrections officer for the former Western Penitentiary and was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl D. Baich Copeland; sons, Rhett P. Copeland and Michael D. Copeland, of Elizabeth Township; brothers, Daniel H. (Cindy) Copeland, of Mt. Pleasant, and Robert "Kip" (Gaylene) Copeland, of Greenock; grandson, Camdyn W. Copeland; sisters-in-law, Michelle (Richard) Parrish and Sharon O'Connor; brothers-in-law, Leon R. Baich and Walter McCombs; eight nieces; nine nephews; nine great-nieces; and three great-nephews.
Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 6028 Smithfield St., Boston, Elizabeth Township. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, in Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Starr officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, 100 Timothy Drive, Elizabeth, PA 15037. Condolences may be made at gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com.

Dave was my grandfather's best friend, he was very special to our family. What I remember most about Dave, he always had a good story to tell. Dave was always laughing, always smiling, and he seemed like a very strong person.

Dave will be missed by all that knew him. I met him through Marie and Kenny Gouker as he and Cheryl ( Geege) were their best friends.
