David A. Funk

David A. Funk, 67, of White Oak, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at home. A 1963 graduate of Duquesne High School, he completed apprentice training as a tool and die maker at the Fisher Body Division of General Motors Corp./Penn State McKeesport. David developed many prototype tool and die fixture applications and received monetary suggestion awards from the company. A member of the United Auto Workers of America, he retired from the Fisher Body Division with 43 years of service. Respected as a fixture device fabricator in machining, he spent his spare time in his basement machine shop. A car buff, he rebuilt several cars throughout his life and was adept at sizing up most any mechanical/electrical problem and providing a solution. He architecturally re-engineered and built his own home, his prized possession. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Duquesne. Born June 8, 1945, in Duquesne, he was a son of Agnes Manns Funk, of Duquesne, and the late Jerome Funk. David is survived by his mother; wife, Barbara Flaherty Funk; brother, Ronald (Patricia) Funk, of West Mifflin; nephew, Thomas Funk, of North Huntingdon; nieces, Cindy Bates, of West Mifflin, and Diane (Peter) Mills, of Naples, Fla.; and nephew, James Bates, of Duquesne. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME INC., 2703 O'Neil Blvd., McKeesport, PA 15132. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church in Duquesne with the Rev. Dennis Colamarino as celebrant.
