Gloria Bodnar Obituary

Gloria A. Bodnar, of North Versailles, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. She was the dutiful daughter of Michael and Susan Perzel; and the caring wife of the late George "Scotty" Bodnar. Her extraordinary typing skills were developed at Divine Redeemer Academy and her patriotic spirit took her to service in the Army, where she was assigned to the Pentagon. As the corporal on duty that morning, she was the administrative assistant who received the Associated Press ticker tape announcing the beginning of the Korean conflict. She was the matriarch of a home filled with lively discussions of history and politics and where higher education was an expectation. She was proud of her Slovak heritage and her children knew the legend of Joe Magarac. Family vacations were tied to polka festivals, where she taught all of her children to dance. She was adored by her daughters, Victoria "Sissy" Rice Campbell (Richard M.), of North Huntingdon, and Kimberly B. Kepple (Duane), of Glassport; sons, Richard W. Rice (Lorraine), of Dallas, Pa., and the late Michael F. Rice; and her grandchildren, Richard A., Scott, Ava, Jennifer, Susan and Laura, all of whom enjoyed her story-telling and ability to make a game out of anything. Services were private and handled by JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME INC., 2703 O'Neil Blvd., McKeesport, PA 15132. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Compassionate Generosity, Victoria Rice Campbell. http://www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.
