Mavis Trasp Obituary

Mavis Marie (Pierce) Trasp, 93, a lifelong resident of Coal Valley Road in Jefferson Hills, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at Lawson Nursing Home. Born Aug. 31, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Lucy Pierce, and widow of Fred Trasp. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she spent most of her life caring for others in many ways. Her talents as a seamstress and baker are legendary, and because of her generous and selfless nature there are so many who received her gifts of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, pillow cases, apple pies, bread and many other products of her talents. Always a happy person, she spent much of her last several years singing songs - some familiar, and some that no one knew because she made them up. Survivors include her children, Fred Trasp Jr., of Cheswick, Sheila Trasp (Jim Bizila), of Pleasant Hills, and Sherry Kisic (John), of Jefferson; grandchildren, Sherry Steele (Frank), Tom Trasp (Heather), Allison Trasp, Fred J. Trasp (Heather) and Eric Trasp (Marissa); 10 great-grandchildren, among them her "special angel" Kayla; sister, Darlene Johnston; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brother, Dr. Walter V. Pierce; sisters, Lois Rowe and Betty Rozelle; and granddaughter, Mary Harvey.
Arrangements are private.
The family requests memorials be made to Lawson Nursing Home, 540 Coal Valley Road, Jefferson Hills, PA 15025. Online condolences may be offered at www.finneyfuneralhome.com.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Mavis for the last 35 years. I never met anyone before or since with the abundance of energy and caring that she showed to everyone, especially children.

I well remember sharing meals at her home and anyone who left hungry from her home, well, there was no such thing at Mavis' home. She fed you physically as well as mentally. Especially with her songs. I never told anyone that sometimes when I listened to her singing that I wanted to cry because of how sincere she came across. That's the type of person she was. Sincere was the way to describe Mavis. Sincere & caring, always caring about people.

That's what I'll remember most about her. Those and her cinnamon rolls that she made that I just absolutely loved. Am hoping the angels are ready for her to entertain them with her many stories.

God Bless You Mavis. You Are One Of A Kind.
