David Lightowler Obituary

David F. Lightowler, 69, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 31, 2017. He was a loving and faithful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by: his four children, his daughter, NancyAnn (husband, Tom), son, David, daughter, Rosanne (husband, Michael), son, Sean, their brother, Isaiah, and their mother, Nancy (husband, Rusty); David's granddaughter, "his little sweetheart", Josiah; his sister, Mary (husband, Daniel); and his nephews, Daniel, Anthony, Donald (son, Hagan) and Timothy (wife, Sandy, and daughter, Paige) and their mother, Thanh. David was born Aug. 29 1947, to Rose and David Lightowler. He was raised in Pittsburgh. He loved the Steelers! He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth Catholic High School and later earned his degree in law enforcement from American University. David was in the Army and a decorated Vietnam War veteran. He earned the rank of master sergeant during his years in the Army Reserves. David worked for the Secret Service. He traveled the world and served six presidents during his career at the White House. He retired at age 50 and pursued his passion for teaching, living history and the Revolutionary War. He was a very active Volunteer in his Community and with the Boy Scouts Organization. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose, Knights of Columbus and the DC Black and Gold Club. He was very well-known, loved and respected by many. He will be greatly missed.
A Catholic Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 1 Grove Place Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A full honors military burial will be at 2 p.m. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road Bridgeville, PA 15017. A fellowship luncheon will immediately follow at Brentwood VFW Post 1810, 3801 Saw Mill Run Blvd., Brentwood, PA 15227.
Memorial contributions can be made to Luray American Legion 22, 106 Zerkel St., Luray, VA 22835 or BSA Troop 7 Luray or BSA Camp OTTARI Mountain Man Program, 2881 Simpkinstown Road, Hiwassee VA 24347, in his memory.
