Gary Pflugh Obituary

Gary W. Pflugh died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, surrounded by family and friends at home, after a long and courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma and pancreatic cancer. Gary's family and friends will honor his legacy by celebrating his life and accomplishments. Gary was born Dec. 18, 1952, and lived in Glenfield most of his life. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Marlene Pflugh; his children, Tracey Pflugh Hartman (Brian) and Sherri Pflugh Wydra (Michael); his grandchildren, Jacob, Mason, Reagan, Morgan and Elizabeth; his niece who was like a daughter to him, Kathleen Kern (Jerry), Kimberlee Paulus (Ryan), Kaylee Keppel (Ian) and Rose Paulus, who affectionately referred to him as Uncle Pap. He is survived by his brother, Don Pflugh (Patricia), Terry Pflugh (Joann), and sister-in-law, Jackie Pflugh; his brother-in-law, Marlin Ludwig (Kathy) and Jack Ludwig (Patty); nieces and nephews, Rick Pflugh (Erin), Karen Pflugh (Todd), Brianna Fisk (Derek), Brittny Pflugh (Evan), Amanda Frank (Tyler), Kevin Ludwig (Pamela), Ryan Ludwig (Kristian), Brandon Ludwig (Rachel) and Jack Ludwig; and many wonderful great-nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his father, Harry W Pflugh, mother, Elizabeth Holzer Pflugh, and brother, Richard Pflugh. After high school graduation, Gary joined the Navy and spent time in Greece, Puerto Rico and Spain. He was stationed on USS Shenandoah for nine months, where he had many great adventures. After the Navy, he continued his education and became an electronics technician. He started working at Duquesne Light and then First Energy. He retired from First Energy after 40 years. Gary was a huge sports fan and enjoyed playing softball and golf for many years. Gary will be remembered for being a man of honor who cared deeply for his family. His quick wit and one-liners brought joy to many and he kept his sense of humor almost to the end. The last eight years of his cancer battle he woke up and fought every day. He never complained and most the time he would express, "It's cool" or "I'm cool," which brought many smiles. In the end, he wished that the world could be a better place where people didn't judge and hate each other but accept each other for who they are as a person. The viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at COPELAND in Sewickley. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, in the Sewickley United Methodist Church, and burial will be at Christ Our Redeemer ceremony. A celebration of life wake will follow at Tracey and Brian's home. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Guests are encouraged to wear purple attire if desired to the funeral to honor Gary. It is the awareness color for pancreatic cancer and his favorite color.
