Harry Walter Obituary

Harry C. Walter, 100, a lifetime resident of Manor, was called home by his Lord and Savior just 12 hours before his 101st birthday celebration on April 20, 2025. He was born April 21, 1924 in Manor, a son of the late Charles B. and Hazel (Kifer) Walter. Harry dedicated his life to family, church and the community. He attended Manor School, leaving before graduation to work and help his mother support the family. As an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict he proudly holds a Purple Heart medal. Harry was a lifelong member of the Manor First United Church of Christ, where he served as custodian for over 50 years and actively helped with church projects and events. He was also a longtime member of the Manor Lion's Club. He was known as 'Mr. Fix It' to many Manor residents for his vast knowledge of many trades. Harry could be seen around town collecting items that others disregarded that he would repurpose with pride and joy into useful items and decorations for family and friends. Harry retired in 1986 from Westinghouse EMD., Cheswick, after 27 years as an electrician. He was a very loving and supportive father and grandfather who believed in God. He enjoyed raising a family, roller skating, card games, gardening, canning, home remodeling, wood working, and helping others. His children are forever grateful to have had a loving father who provided for them and passed along his acquired knowledge and many talents. Harry wanted all to know how blessed and thankful he was for a wonderful life filled with family, many dear friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Mary Ann (Errett) Walter; brothers, Clive, Clement, 'Buster' and twin brother Howard Walter; and sisters Irene, Edith 'Marie', and Ruth 'Enid' Walter; He is survived by his children Carol (husband John), Linda, Terry, and Sandra; his granddaughter Joyce (husband Matthew); and great grandchildren Steele and Stella. Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Diane Wiley, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made in Harry's name to the Manor Lions Club, 123 Brandywine Dr., Irwin, PA 15642.
