James A. Vertullo

James A. Vertullo, of Pittsburgh, passed Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at St. Clair Hospital, after a long-term illness. He passed peacefully with love and support from his family. Jim is survived by his son, James A. Vertullo Jr., who cared for him at home for several years; daughter, Jennifer R. Vertullo, of McKeesport; grandchildren, Magdalena Bowie Koisor and Logan Margliotti; siblings, David A. (Kathy) Vertullo MD., of Scottsdale, Ariz., Robert A. (Linda) Vertullo, of Adams Township, and Susan M. Vertullo, of Virginia Beach, Va.; nieces and nephews; and, of course, his madcap pup, Freya. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmen L. Vertullo and Esther Pace Vertullo. Jim was a proud 1971 graduate of Central Catholic High School, attended Robert Morris College and graduated from Duquesne University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. Upon graduation, he worked in environmental services management and chemical sales for medical and institutional facilities. Jim raised his family in Downingtown and South Park Township, where he helped to coach youth baseball. He was an avid football fan in adulthood and a proudly aggressive player in his youth. Jim will be remembered for his tenacity, persistence and will. He lived and died by his own rules. Friends and family will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, in St. Paul of the Cross Roman Catholic Parish's St. Anne Church, 400 Hoodridge Drive, Castle Shannon.
