John McGonigle Obituary

John William McGonigle died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, with his wife of 54 years by his side. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, he was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, friend and professional colleague. He will be dearly missed by many, many people. It was a life well lived. John was the vice chairman of Federated Investors, where he had worked for 51 years. John loved Federated and considered his colleagues among his dearest friends. They were an integral part of his life. He loved to travel and play golf, but his true love was his wife, three children, their spouses, and 11 grandchildren. He laughed, played and traveled with them every chance he got. John had a relationship with his family, including his grandchildren, that was exceptional. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, Duquesne University and Duquesne University Law School, John McGonigle never ceased to focus on what he could do to help his family, his friends and the Catholic organizations that were a part of his life. He was truly a great man who positively impacted a lot of people. Surviving Mr. McGonigle are his wife, Mary Ita McGonigle; his three children, Kevin (Susan) McGonigle, Christine McGonigle (Stephen) Newcamp and Michael (Kathleen) McGonigle; his sister, Dolores Sansonetti, and brother, James T. McGonigle; and his 11 grandchildren, John Kevin McGonigle, Mary Davis McGonigle, William James McGonigle, Robin Joseph Newcamp, Brigid Elise Newcamp, Gavin Charles Newcamp, Declan Henry Newcamp, Claire Maureen McGonigle, Sean Michael McGonigle, Ryan Michael McGonigle and Kelly Ann McGonigle. John McGonigle was predeceased by his parents, Henry J. McGonigle and Madeline I. McGonigle.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCABE BROS. INC. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut St., Pittsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Joseph Church, Dorseyville Road, at 10 a.m. Wednesday. THOSE WISHING TO ATTEND, PLEASE GATHER AT THE CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to the McGonigle Family Foundation at Central Catholic High School, to Oakland Catholic High School or to Catholic Hospice.
