John Schaming Obituary

John F. Schaming Jr., known affectionately as Jack to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2025, at 76. Born on Dec. 19, 1948, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of the late John F. Schaming Sr. and Grace Murphy Schaming. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Darlene Marie (Orosz) Schaming; son, Christopher (April) Schaming; daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Gribble; granddaughter, Celeste (Jacob) Hutchinson; grandson, Brady Schaming; sister, Maryellen (Vernon) Roberts; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Marc Brian Schaming. Jack's early years were defined by his commitment to his country, serving as an Army veteran during the Vietnam War. His bravery and service left an indelible mark on those who knew him, and he carried the lessons learned in the military throughout his life. After his honorable discharge, Jack found his calling as a forklift driver at Westinghouse, where he worked diligently for nearly two decades. His work ethic and reliability made him a respected figure among his colleagues. When Westinghouse closed its doors, Jack seamlessly transitioned to working for a friend's landscaping business. His green thumb and eye for beauty made him a talented landscaper, and he took pride in the transformation he could bring to any outdoor space. Jack's meticulous nature ensured that every garden he touched was left in impeccable condition, much to the delight of his clients. Jack's interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and joy in hunting, fishing, and camping. His love for the outdoors was a testament to his appreciation for life's simple joys and the beauty of the natural world. Jack's ability to tell a story was unparalleled; he could captivate an audience with tales of his adventures and life experiences, often leaving listeners hanging on his every word. Known for his particular ways, Jack had a method for everything, from his storytelling to the way he meticulously cared for his beloved maltipoo, Chloe. His love for his furry companion was evident to all who knew him, and Chloe was a constant source of happiness in his life. Jack's passion for the past was reflected in his love for Western movies and TV shows from the 1950s and 1960s. He could often be found reminiscing over the classics, sharing his insights and fond memories with anyone who would listen. In the kitchen, Jack was famous for his deviled eggs, which were often declared the best by anyone lucky enough to taste them. Described by those who knew him as wise, friendly, and thoughtful, Jack's presence was a comfort and a joy. His wisdom was sought after by friends and family, and his friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community. His thoughtfulness was evident in every aspect of his life, from the care he took in his work to the way he treated those around him. Jack's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. His stories, his dedication to his work, and his passion for life will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Jack Schaming Jr. will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of those he left behind. Am sorry to hear about Jack. I grew up with him, Pat Murray and the Engle boys -- Chuck and Dave -- in Park Terrace, playing baseball, football, sword fighting with paint stirrers, generally goofing off. He was a nice guy.

Eventually, all those guys went to Serra Catholic while I remained in public school, losing track of Jack. It sounds like he remained a nice guy throughout his life.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.

I will always remember our time at camp and hunting in Yellowhammer

Jack was always ready with a good long story or to lend a hand.
He will be missed.
