Albert Ott Obituary

Albert W. Ott, of Pleasant Hills, formerly of Allentown, passed away suddenly Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, two days shy of his 89th birthday. He was the son of Albert W. Ott and Esther Shook Ott. Al was the devoted and loving husband of 64 years to Lois K. Ott; and the father of Mary Alice "Gert" Mathew (Drew), of Zelienople, Timothy P. Ott (Vera), of Baden, and Glenn W. Ott (Bethe), of Whitehall. He was the fun and loving "Pap" to Joe (Julie), Alecia and Kirsten Ott, Jessica and Spencer Mathew and Morgan and Lake Ott. He was also the great-grandfather of Mason, Lauren, Landon and Mallon Ott. Al leaves one surviving sibling, his sister, Jane Miles (Joe), of Vero Beach, Fla., and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew A. Ott; and his sisters, Rose Frey, Vera Ott and Mary Schneider. Al was always the life of the party and cherished times spent with his family. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Conneaut Lake and making the rounds to neighbors on Comstock Street or waiting in his yard for kids and grandkids to show up for an impromptu party. After graduating from St. George High School in Allentown, he enlisted in the Marines and proudly served in World War II. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, he enrolled in and graduated from Duquesne University, after which he took over his father's successful real estate and insurance business in the Allentown section of Pittsburgh until his retirement in 1990. He was past president of the South Hills Multi List, was on the board of directors of Progressive Home Federal Savings and Loan, a proud member of the VFW and the American Legion and one of the longest-standing members of the PA Sportsmans Club and the St. George Lyceum. He was a current parishioner at St. Elizabeth Church in Pleasant Hills. In honoring his request, there will be no viewing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at St. John Vianney Parish (St. George Church) with the Rev. Rudy Smoley as celebrant.
