Charles Frownfelter Obituary

Charles R. "Bob" Frownfelter, of Verona, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Joy Madeleine Swan and the late Marie Koontz Frownfelter; also survived by his sons, Richard Frost, of Ross, and Edwin (Debra) Frownfelter, of Lee's Summit, Mo; daughter, Marcia (Arthur) Baschnagel, of Dublin, Ohio; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Frownfelter graduated in mechanical - aeronautical engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology, class of 1944. After serving for three years in the Army Air Force in the Midwest United States and the Pacific Theater, he joined Goodyear Aircraft Corp., in Akron Ohio, where he helped develop improvements in aircraft canopies. In 1956, he joined Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. (now PPG Industries Inc.) until retirement in 1984. At PPG he worked on product development of novel applications of glass, making many trips throughout the United States and Canada. He and Ms. Swan retired to the Masonic Village at Sewickley, then Longwood at Oakmont. He was a member of Memorial Park Presbyterian Church and a friend of the congregation of Ms. Swan's church, Third Presbyterian Church, in East Liberty, and Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, in Fox Chapel. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Longwood at Oakmont, in their chapel. Arrangements by SIMONS FUNERAL HOME INC., 7720 Perry Highway, 412-367-3100.
