Evelyn Ference Obituary

Evelyn Ference, 91, of Trafford died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Hills. She was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Trafford to the late Louis and Doris Schopp Jenets and also was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril M. Ference, in 1995 and sister, Theresa Bohince. Evelyn graduated from Duquesne University in 1938 with a degree in music and while in college and after graduating played with many big bands in the Pittsburgh area. She was a music teacher for the Trafford School District for six years and then the Franklin Regional School District before retiring after 34 years of service. She was a member of St. Regis Church, Trafford, and its organist for 35 years and a member of the Trafford and Level Green Senior Citizens, the Alley-West Senior Citizens, the Holy Spirit Golden Agers, West Mifflin, and the former Trafford Women's Club. She was a former member of the Trafford American Legion Post 331 Auxiliary. Evelyn is survived by daughter Kathleen Kovalcik (George), of West Mifflin, grandson Michael Kovalcik, brother James Jenets, of Silver Spring, Md., and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 702 Seventh St. (Route 130), Trafford, 412-372-3111. Parting prayers will be at 9 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, followed by funeral Mass at 9:30 in St. Regis Church with the Rev. James D. Tringhese as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park mausoleum, Delmont.
