Linwood Thiessen Obituary

Linwood Thiessen, 92, of Longwood at Oakmont, Plum, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003. He was born in Kiel, Wis., and graduated from Schenley High School and the University of Pittsburgh, class of 1934, with a degree in mechanical engineering and where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. Linwood was employed for 39 years at Vesuvius Crucible Co., Swissvale, where he was a chief engineer and the head of plant, equipment and welfare. He was active in the American Institute of Mining Engineers; South Avenue United Methodist Church, Wilkinsburg; the Boys Scouts of America; Masons, and Rotary. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Black Thiessen. Father of Linwood (Judith) Thiessen Jr. of Wheaton, Ill.; Paul G. Thiessen of Beaver, and Linda (Thomas) Thiessen Bankson and Daniel M. (Amanda) Thiessen of O'Hara. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in South Avenue United Methodist Church, where a reception will follow immediately. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, 733 South Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15221 or the American Heart Association. Arrangements by the THOMAS D. ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME, Oakmont.
