Mary Meskanick Obituary

Mary R. Meskanick, 88, of Duquesne, died peacefully Friday, July 26, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Dec. 21, 1924, in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Barna) Racsko. Mary was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone and its successor companies. She was the loving mother of Paul G. Meskanick Jr., of Evans City; grandmother of Andrea Kessler, Alexander Meskanick, Julianne Meskanick and Christian Meskanick; and sister of Helen Hacke, of Munhall. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Paul G. Meskanick Sr.; a daughter, Marlene Meskanick Kessler; and a brother, John Racsko. Known for her selflessness, compassion, and caring and gentle nature, Mrs. Meskanick graduated from McKeesport High School in 1943 and was a member of Christ the Light of The World Parish. Very devout in her Catholic faith, Mary dedicated herself to God and to her family. She was a true inspiration to all of those fortunate enough to know her, with her loving disposition, positive attitude and strong work ethic. Mary was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and also belonged to the Jednota Lodge No. 276 in McKeesport. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in the WILLIAM S. SKOVRANKO MEMORIAL HOME, corner of Richford and Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne. Blessing services will be held in the memorial home at 9 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Name Church, Duquesne, with the Rev. Dennis Colamarino as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Name Cemetery, West Mifflin.
