Paul Pivac Obituary

Paul E. Pivac, 85, of Cecil, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, in Huntsville, Ala. He was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Meadowlands, a son of the late John and Martha Dokmonovich Pivac. He served in the Navy during World War II as a signalman third class during the D-Day invasion. Mr. Pivac was of 57-year veteran of Cecil Township Volunteer Fire Service, a member of Cecil American Legion Post 793 and the Croatian Fraternal Union, Canonsburg. He volunteered at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies and was a former scout leader. He also helped organize the Cecil Township Youth Athletic Association and was a soccer player and coach. He worked as a inspector expediter for Stone and Webster Engineering, Pittsburgh, and McGraw-Edison Power Systems, Canonsburg. Surviving are his daughter, Bernadette Harris, of Huntsville, Ala.; and son, Paul R. (Laurie) Pivac, of Cecil; five grandchildren, David (Becky) Harris, of St. Mary, Ga., Jerrod (Heather) Harris, of Huntsville, Ala., Joshua (Kim) Pivac, of Suffolk, Va., Derek Pivac, of Newark, Del., and Brady Pivac, of Cecil; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Bissonette, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Josephine Domine, of South Strabane Township; and a brother-in-law, Ray (Rose) Roman, of Muse. He was preceded in death by his Parents, his wife, Anna Mae Pivac in 1993, and a infant brother, Joseph Pivac. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the COLEMAN-TAYLOR FUNERAL SERVICES, 3378 Millers Run Road, Route 50, Cecil, where services will be held at noon Friday with Father George Deville officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with military honor accorded by VFW 191 Canonsburg and Houston American Legion Post 902. In lieu of flowers family would like donations to the Paul Pivac Scholarship for Emergency Service Education, c/o Community Scholarship Foundation of Canon-McMillan, P.O. Box 559, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
