Rosemarie Macchiaroli

Rosemarie (Billey) Macchiaroli, 77, of North Huntingdon, passed peacefully with her family at her side Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at the Southwestern Veterans Center in Pittsburgh. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Macchiaroli for 55 years; loving mother of Joseph A. (Lisa) Macchiaroli, M.D., of Indiana, Pa., and Peter B. (Jane) Macchiaroli, of North Huntingdon; cherished grandmother of Maria D. (fiance, Benjamin Hodnett, M.D.) Macchiaroli, of Pittsburgh, and Anthony J Macchiaroli, of Johnstown; sister of Peter (Eileen) Billey, D.D.S., of Madison, Steven (Connie) Billey, of Trauger, and Joanne (Jim) Gayton, of United; also survived by nieces and nephews. Rosemarie was a graduate of Hurst High School in Mt. Pleasant Township and a 1958 graduate of the Braddock Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduation, she joined the Army as a nurse and attained the rank of second lieutenant. She served as a nurse at Walter Reed Hospital in Silver Spring, Md., and was a nurse for First Lady Mamie Eisenhower as well as many military personnel. After raising her sons, she joined her husband, Anthony, in operating their family business, Valley Shoe Repair in North Versailles. Friends welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at PATRICK T. LANIGAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, 412-824-8800, where a Parastas will be prayed on Tuesday evening. Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church in Trauger. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Trauger.
