Saul M. Weiss

Saul M. Weiss, of Shaler, died Friday, April 10, 2009. Mr. Weiss was the beloved husband of Rita V. (Mazza) Weiss; proud father of Victoria (Ben) Kisslinger, of Fox Chapel, Jeanine (Jason) Holt, of Roanoke, Va., Richard (Kara) Weiss, of Philadelphia, Gregory Weiss, of Chicago, Paul (Sandra) Weiss, of Medford Lakes, N.J., and Lawrence (Susan) Weiss, of Pittsburgh; son of the late Samuel and Esther (Colker) Weiss; brother of the late Bertram and Willard Weiss; grandpa of Bennett, Spencer and Michael Doyle, Joseph, Nicholas, Stephen, Kathryn and Michael Weiss, Julia, Nathaniel and James Kisslinger, Keenan, Lucas and Jillian Holt; brother-in-law of Reva and Frieda Weiss and the late George and Betty Mazza; son-in-law of the late Gregory and Irene Mazza; also many nieces and nephews. Mr. Weiss was the personal photographer to the late Cardinal John Wright and Monsignor Andrew Pauley at St. Paul Cathedral. He began a distinguished photographic career in service to medical educators in the greater Pittsburgh area at Mercy Hospital. A career which continued for 25 years, as he served as Chief of Medical Media in the VA Hospital System's New Orleans and Greater Pittsburgh Regions. Mr. Weiss was a World War II Marine Corps veteran with the rank of Commandant. He was a proud member of the Three Rivers Leathernecks No. 310. He was an active member of the United States Marine Veterans Inc. and Sharing and Caring Inc. Mr. Weiss was a longtime judge for the PA Junior Academy of Science for which he instituted an annual Award of Excellence in Computer Science granted by the Marine Corps League. Until recently, Mr. Weiss served as the Marine Corps League's military funeral coordinator, arranging military honors for the burials of servicemen and women in the Pittsburgh area. Celebrate Mr. Weiss' life with his family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the FRANK R. PERMAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 923 Saxonburg Blvd. at Route 8, Shaler. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Glenshaw.
