Margaret Peabody Obituary

Margaret (Marny) Peabody passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at the age of 75. She went peacefully surrounded by family. Marny was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., Nov. 11, 1947, to parents Jane and Albert Riehl. Her childhood, with sister Becky and brother Hank, was spent in Sewickley, where Marny attended the Winchester Thurston School before going on to Wellesley College for her undergraduate degree and Boston University for her masters in Education. Marny also earned an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University. Marny met her future husband, Bill, on a college ski trip to Sunday River, and they were soon married on June 25, 1969. They shared 53 loving and eventful years together between Atkinson and Alton, N.H., where they raised two boys, Mark and Bo. A loving mother to her sons and their spouses and an adoring grandmother to her five grandchildren, Marny was affectionately referred to as "Granmarny." Always the first one to go swimming, throw a ball or play checkers, Marny's fierce commitment to spending time with her grandchildren led to a lifetime of love shared in 15 years. Marny was a woman of faith and cherished the community that church brought to her and Bill in both Atkinson and Wolfeboro, N.H. They led the youth group at Atkinson Congregational Church (ACC) in their early years and sang in the church choirs at both ACC and All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro. In the years that Marny and Bill raised their family in Atkinson, the midnight service on Christmas Eve at ACC was almost never missed. Marny's professional life was characterized by innovation. She was the vice president of marketing at Digital Consulting Inc. in Andover, Mass., where she conceptualized and executed some of the nation's leading conferences on cutting edge computing technologies. From there, she pioneered her own cutting-edge technology, together with brother, Hank, through their start-up, Skillview Technologies. Marny maintained lifelong friendships and devoted much of her later years to nurturing them. The family sincerely acknowledges the importance of those friends. Many of her friendships revolved around her love of tennis, skiing, golf, pickleball, walking, boating and the New England Patriots. Every Sunday during football season, whether in New Hampshire or her adopted winter home of The Villages, Fla., she could be found "coaching" from her favorite chair. Marny loved a good (or bad) gin martini, a garden full of flowers and vegetables, and a well-run game of blackjack. Marny is survived by her husband, Bill Peabody; her son, Bo Peabody, wife, Katherine Peabody and their sons, Brody, Renn, and Wesley; her son, Mark Peabody, wife Margaux Peabody and their daughter, Teagan and son, Ayler. Marny is also survived by her sister, Becky Riehl; and brother, Hank Riehl, and his wife, Cheryl; her brother-in-law, Ron Peabody and his wife, Jenn; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial to celebrate Marny's life is planned for 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Atkinson Congregational Church. The family wishes memorial contributions be made to Atkinson Congregational Church (101 Main St., Atkinson, NH 03811) in lieu of flowers.
