Darryl J. Pastirak

Darryl Joseph Pastirak, 43, of Monroeville, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2025, in Malawi, Africa. Devoted son of Janice Pastirak (Rupert) and the late Darryl "Big D" Pastirak.Nephew of Gene and Patricia McBryar, and Tim and Carol Thorsen. Cousin of Jennifer (Sean) Friday, Gene (Kim) McBryar, Matthew (Charlotte) Thorsen, Luke and Hannah Friday, and Kendel, Gavin, and Shane McBryar.Darryl was a 2000 graduate of Gateway High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.Darryl loved and participated in numerous sports, both organized and backyard neighborhood activities, throughout all seasons with his many friends. He especially loved spending time with his dad, "Big D", throughout the city at all sports venues, mingling with friends and strangers! He had a special bond with his Foxwood neighborhood, where friends gathered to enjoy the unforgettable antics of "Big D" and "Little D"! Darryl enjoyed his summers at the Foxwood pool just being a kid growing up and making lifelong friends!After completing his education, he opted to take his talents to all parts of the world, including Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Honduras, and more, until his unexpected passing in Lilongwe, Africa, using his skills on major construction projects. While in Lilongwe, Africa, Darryl immediately started to help children that were in need. He enjoyed interfacing with all his foreign friends, always embracing the culture and becoming part of the community wherever he worked.Darryl will always be remembered for his quiet smile and kind and loving heart. Darryl's friends and family, while grieving for him, take comfort knowing that his time on earth was so exciting and interesting for him and so meaningful for those, he befriended throughout his short but purposeful life!In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Darryl's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Blvd., Memphis, TN 38105. Visitation was held at GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100). Mass of Christian Burial was held at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish at St. Bernadette Church.
