Alfred J. "Dr. Taxx" Ferraro, 84, of Latrobe, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at Westmoreland Hospital, surrounded by those who loved him. Al was born on Aug. 2, 1941, in Latrobe, a son of the late Alfred W. and Mary (Moffa) Ferraro. Al Ferraro was a proud father, soldier, musician, chef, and so much more. Al was a self-employed accountant, having worked for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. Al's military service and camaraderie with those who defended America were points of pride. Al was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Latrobe. Al was a musician. He played music for thousands of people across America, often with his beloved brother, Lynn. The band Tangerine, celebrated by people who know good music, was known for loud, incredible spectacles. Later in his career, he focused on songwriting and collecting guitars. Al was a passionate chef. Besides owning his own restaurant, he also loved to cook. Besides his parents, Al was preceded in death by two sons, Gino and Alfred S. Ferraro; and one brother, Lynn D. Ferraro. Al is survived by his loving wife, Kristen E. (Olson) "Kris" Ferraro of Latrobe; one daughter, Teresa Helton, and husband, Michael, of TX; two sons, Steven Ferraro of Latrobe and Vito Ferraro and wife, Jennifer, of NJ; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Linda L. Ferraro of Ligonier Township; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family will receive friends for Al's life celebration from 2 to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at MATTHEW X. MERLIN FUNERAL HOME INC., 529 N. Chestnut St., Derry, PA, 724-694-8331. The Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors in the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025.
