I´ve known Penny for 70 years. We became friends when we were 10 & 12 yrs old, went to schools together and rode horseback. We often giggled over the summer her parents went away for a week (or was it 2? was it a month? I can´t remember) and Penny stayed at our house at night and my parents dropped us off at the Kim´s during the day to take care of the horses. We could only find cans of tomatoes so we ate stewed tomatoes and ice cream every day for lunch! In the afternoon we would go hide behind the barn and smoke purloined cigarettes....
A couple of years and different horses later we had a blistering summer so we would take them down to the deep area of a creek and let the horses swim while we hung on for dear life staying away from kicking legs and hooves. This doesn´t begin to cover the devilment ( is there such a word?) we got into! Our parents would have had a royal fit if they´d known!
I was delighted when Penny showed up for my wedding in July, 1967 all pooching out with baby David. But then life intervened and we didn´t see each other for years until I brought my younger son, Will and my husband, Bill for a visit to my old stomping grounds in PA. We stayed with Penny for a few days and talked over old times. After that it became just phone calls but we never forgot our love for each other. I´m pleased that we chatted not too long before she died and she was on my mind constantly just in the last week or so.....now I know why.
Farewell, my dear friend, hopefully we will be reunited sometime. Love, Jeanie

My heartfelt sympathy to Penny’s family and friends. Penny was my first soprano friend and four country singing tour buddy with the Scottdale Choral Society. I will always hold precious memories and cherish our time together! Until we meet again, RIP!
