Alvin K. "Creamy" Markle, 83, of West Newton, died at home Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, with his granddaughters, Carri and Kayla, at his side. Born July 23, 1924, in South Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Peola Shephard and Ola Leona (Hudspeth) Markle. Alvin was retired from U.S. Steel, Irvin Works. He was a veteran, serving during World War II in the Navy, having received ribbons for the European African and Middle East Campaign, American Campaign, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star. He was a member of the West Newton VFW Post #7812; a founding, lifetime member of the Collinsburg Hunting and Fishing Club; also an avid Pirates, Steelers, Penguins and Panthers fan. He is survived by six children, Kenneth Markle, of McKeesport, Sandi Hawthorne and husband, Joe, of Buena Vista, Debby Furar and husband, Donald, of Goodyear, Ariz., Keith Markle, of Fort Pierce, Fla., Kevin Markle, and Dennis W. Markle and wife, Jeanette, all of West Newton; five grandchildren, Paul Hawthorne, Renae Copeland, Breanne Furar, Carri and Kayla Markle; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alles, Evelyn and Ola; also a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor E. (Smith) Markle, in 2002; and a number of brothers and sisters. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 901 Vine St., West Newton, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. John E. Duvall officiating. Interment will be in West Newton Cemetery with military honors by the Greensburg VFW Honor Guard.
