Barbara Martin Obituary

Our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Jean Martin, peacefully joined loved ones who passed before her, Monday, July 24, 2023. Over her nine decades, she brought kindness and joy to all. She had many loves. First, was always her family, her late husband, Robert Adam Martin, and their four children and spouses, Nancy (Stuart) Fox, Jude Resenic, Robert Martin and David (Tracy) Martin. Mimi's eight wonderful grandchildren brought her so much love, Sarah Resenic (Suzi Templer), Ashley Martin, Dana Martin, Bill (Kimberly) Resenic, Katie (Ryan) Shaffer, Adam Martin, Liz Resenic (Dan Froehlich) and Jenn (Shaun) Murray. She adored her great-grandchildren, Mia Shaffer, Lennon, Jimi, Andie, and Vance Resenic; Tyler, Marcus, and Connor Shaffer; and Millie Murray. Her second passion was nursing. She started her career at The Woodville Institution, continued in Columbia Hospital's ICU and retired from Braddock Hospital's short procedure unit, where she enjoyed working with the healthcare team and patients. She was excited to walk into work every day. She stayed active in retirement, accompanying people to doctor's appointments and tests. She met so many people that she adored. Cooking relaxed her and gave her a creative outlet. She was a talented knitter, crafter and decorator. She loved shoes. They were the first thing she treated herself to when she started to earn her own money. After her beloved husband, Bob, passed in 2000, she reinvented herself, moving to a new town and getting involved in her church. She was honored as Volunteer of the Year. That's how much she loved helping people. She loved sweets, good cookies, cake and ice cream, sharing her baked goods with fellow sweet-tooths and sometimes with her rowdy Poodle, Max. Everyone who met her was struck by her gentle and engaging manner. Her life was filled with meaning and she shared her zest for life with all who follow her. During the past few years of her life, her daughter, Jude, played a leading and loving role in her mother's care. Bob, Dave and Nancy's frequent visits helped their mother stay in her home. We are grateful that she remained in the house she dearly loved for her final days. Service and interment will be private. If you knew Barbara and would like to honor her, please donate to or volunteer with an animal rescue nonprofit. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.snydergreenfh.com.

My sincere condolences to the Martin family. I worked with "Jean" in the Short Procedure Unit at Braddock Hospital. She was a great person as well as a great nurse! I remember tasting her delicious baked goods. May your happy memories give you peace and comfort.

I first meet Jean when we were roommates at a retreat at Jumonville. After that we became good friends. She was one of the kindest people I have ever know! She will be missed. Pat Zimmerman

When such a kind and loving soul moves on into the kingdom of Heaven, all that have been blessed by her presence fell the sense of loss ,yet celebrate her memory and how she made our lives richer through her humor and assistance she provided. As you walk with God, we know that you will always be looking down on your family and sending you love to them.

Jean was my mother´s neighbor for years and would check on her almost everyday. If she saw a light on in mom´s house at night she would head out her back door into my mother´s back door and make sure she was ok.
Jean was a very special, caring woman and she will be missed.
