Barbara Murray Obituary

Barbara A. (Hilt) Murray was born in March 20, 1936, in Pittsburgh. She passed away on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, in Tulsa, Okla., after a decline in her health, Barbara was only 87 years of age. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Anne Feher (Eisaman); her son-in-law, Steven Feher; her grandsons, Maxwell and Sam Feher; her nieces, Pat Slosar and Susan Lussier; her nephews, William, Dennis and Timothy Dawes; great-niece, Stacey Eby; great-nephew, Micheal Slosar; and many loyal friends and extended family. Barbara was predeceased by her father Howard Hilt; her mother, Eleanor Hilt; her sisters, Patricia and Joanne; and great-nephew, Brian Slosar. Barbara received a BFA in Art at Seton Hill College and worked several years as stain glass artist, muralist and mosaic artist. Several of her stained glass panels appeared at the Pittsburgh Aquarium and she had murals at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Barbara earned a masters of education from the University of Pittsburgh and embarked on a career of text books sales and retired as a regional sales manager. Barbara's sales career lead to living in Texas, New Jersey, and California before retiring to Oklahoma to be a full-time grandmother. Barbara loved to travel. Her first international trip was to Rome for the canonization of Saint Elizabeth Seton and her last was a river cruise in Germany the weekend after 9/11. Barbara loved art and music and passed on that love to her daughter and grandsons. While living in California, Barbara fell in love with cross country biking and took up water color painting and photography. Barbara loved to shop for anything and everything. Barbara was a volunteer at the museum of art at University of Oklahoma in Norman and the Philbrook museum in Tulsa. Barbara was gifted a puppy named Fynn McCool when she retired, and he was the last great love of her life. Barbara suffered from many physical ailments in the last years of her life, but somehow bore these ailments with grace. She found happiness in her grandsons, in the patio garden at University Village, listening to classical music on her radio, and watching Kevin Costner in Yellowstone. A memorial service for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Saint Patrick's Episcopal Church, 4250 W. Houston, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.

Barbara was a mighty woman. Proud of her working class roots, she turned this seeking boy into a stained glass craftsman. That made my career. I've benefitted from the wisdom of her Seton Hill education and the wonderment of her Irish soul for 55 years of friendship. Blessings on her beautiful family.

My first memory of Barbara was in watching her design and paint a mural to decorate the smoke stained -walls of "the Smoker" at Seton Hill when we were freshmen and just learning to smoke. We have maintained a friendship through the years and I counted her as a very dear and close friend. May she rest in Peace and may all who knew her keep her alive in your hearts. Betsy Binder
