Bernard J. Martinelli, 80, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025. He was born Jan. 2, 1945, in McKeesport, son of the late Alexander and Hulda Lander Martinelli. He was a 1962 graduate of West Newton High School. He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Greensburg. Bernie enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1965 and served a 13-month tour of duty. He was honorably discharged after receiving the rank of sergeant. In 1972, he was accepted into the PA State Police and was assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Harrisburg. After retirement, Bernie worked part-time for Larry Lint Flooring as a "guesstimator." Later in life, he took up golf, which he enjoyed until age 79. In addition to his parents, Bernie was predeceased by a sister, Bonita Lofts. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Ackerman Martinelli; a son, Bernard (Teri) Martinelli, of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Leanna (Rich) Anderson, of Mars; two stepdaughters, Courtney Lofts, of Doylestown, and Erin (Dan) Miller, of Greensburg; nine grandchildren; two nephews, Roy Lofts and Troy Lofts; a great-nephew; and a great-niece. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, in the funeral home chapel. Interment with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33 will follow in St. Clair Cemetery.
