David Messina Obituary

David Michael Messina, 64, passed away on Mar. 17, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was born June 3, 1959, in Pittsburgh and lived most of his life in Springdale. David graduated from Riverview High School in 1978. He was a licensed stationary engineer and skilled carpenter, but his true passion was repair work, and he could fix almost anything. David worked as a steelworker for Kellogg-American from 1980 to 1982, and then for over ten years as the lead of the maintenance shop for the Holiday Inn and associated properties in Harmar. Later, he worked as the maintenance lead for the JCPenney store in the Monroeville Mall. He retired as a regional inspector for the Johnson Controls corporation in 2015. David was of the Christian faith and wholeheartedly served the Lord his entire life. He liked helping others and was proud of his mission trips, including to Mexico in the 1990s. You could often find David enjoying his pipe or a good cigar with family and friends. He always entertained a crowd for his Fourth of July parties, which he hosted at his home for almost twenty years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Elsa Jean (Piccinini) Messina. David is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 12 years, Vicki Lynn (Person) Messina; his sons, Jason (Juliana) Messina and Mark (Jessica) Messina; five grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Jack) Lydick, Daniel (Marti) Messina, Matthew (Linda) Messina, Paul (Rhonda) Messina, Laura Amos, Teresa (David) Brennan, and Marie (Daniel) Hinkelman; and many nieces and nephews. Family will hold private services.

My condolences to Dave's wife and family. We all will miss him tremendously! I'll miss our conversations, his wisdom and advice. I worked with Dave when we crossed paths through JCPenney. Dave was most influential in the direction my life took, all because he believed in me. He was a special friend and a heck of a man! I miss him!!!

David surprised me the day of my wedding by showing up. He said that he heard that I was getting married and wanted to be there. He was one of my best friends in school and was loved and respected by everyone. He will be missed by many. I know that he is in heaven.
