Edna E. Smith

1951 - 2025

Edna Elizabeth Smith, 73, of Arnold, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 22, 1951, in New Kensington, to the late John and Edna Baxter Middleby. Edna was a 1969 graduate of Valley High School and also graduated from New Ken Commercial School. She worked for Weiman Pump until she became a stay-at-home mother. Edna enjoyed puzzles, gardening, reading and finding a good bargain. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Joan Middleby and Sara 'Sally' Middleby Jordan; half-brother, Robert Baxter; and in-laws, Joseph 'Bud' and Olga Smith. Edna is survived by her husband, Thomas Smith, of Arnold; daughters, Jean (Romy) Nitowski, of Natrona Heights, and Lisa (Erik) Fox, of Arnold; grandchildren, Ava and Jackson Nitowski, and Tyler and Derek Fox; and her cat, Snowball. Edna's family would like to thank her daily caregivers, Amber, Leigh Ann and Danniele, and also UPMC Hospice Care for all their help. Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Greenwood Memorial Park, with Father Bimbot officiating.
