Emogene 'Jean' F. Oskin, 96, of Greensburg, Unity Township, died Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Redstone North Huntingdon. She was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Webster Springs, WV, daughter of the late Maggie Carpenter. She was an only child but grew up surrounded by cousins. She started college at Wesleyan in her home state before moving to Philadelphia to attend Thomas Jefferson's College of Nursing and earn her RN. The city of brotherly love is also where she met her future husband, Bert. They were married in December 1956 and were married for nearly 60 years. Jean stayed home with her sons, Mike and Jim, while they were growing up. She enjoyed cooking for her family and trying out new recipes, and her pecan pie was a trademark at Thanksgiving. After Bert's retirement, Jean and Bert traveled extensively around the world, and they always made sure to bring back little souvenirs for their family back home. They were involved members of Charter Oak Church and also were long-time volunteers for Meals on Wheels sometimes taking their grandchildren along with them to drop off meals. Jean was always game to play gin rummy with her grandkids, even though she frequently lost because she was dealt terrible hands. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, attending Bible studies, and watching British shows like Doc Martin. All of these activities would be incomplete without cups of black coffee to fuel her. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her infant son, Thomas Oskin, in 1963; and her husband, Dr. Hilbert 'Bert' E. Oskin, in 2016. Jean is survived by two sons, Rev. Michael (Deborah) Oskin, of Columbus, OH, and Dr. James (Susan) Oskin, of Cranberry Township. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Allison, Jennifer, and Jonathan Oskin. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Charter Oak Church, 449 Frye Farm Road, Greensburg. Private interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Penn Hills.
