Eugene R. Proctor

Eugene R. Proctor, 89, of New Stanton, died Sunday, June 17, 2018, at his home. He was born April 28, 1929, in Irwin, son of the late Carl S. and Ruth Steiner Proctor. Prior to his retirement, he served in the Army during World War II as an auto service man. He later on became an over the road truck driver. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 40 of Carver, Mass. He was also a previous member of the Hempfield Hunt Club of New Stanton. Eugene loved scratch offs and was an avid coin collector. Throughout his life, he earned the name "The Penny Man" because he handed out thousands of lucky pennies throughout his life. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife of 62 years, Mildred G. Smith Proctor; three brothers, Carl Proctor, George Proctor and Duane Proctor; and two sisters, Gwen Weinburg and Margie Miller. He is survived by three sons, Dave Proctor and wife, Sue, of Pittsburgh, Zane Proctor, of New Stanton, and Mark Proctor, of Donora; three daughters, Janet Powell and husband, Ralph, of Brockton, Mass., Merry Patton, of Carver, Mass., and Barbara Savasta, of New Stanton; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Eugene will be missed by many.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Samuel Scheiderer officiating. Interment will follow at Westmoreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg, with the Armbrust Veterans accorded.
