Frank P. McGrogan

1927 - 2017

Frank Patrick McGrogan, 89, of West Newton, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. He was born March 18, 1927, in Collinsburg (Rostraver Township), the son of the late Frank P. McGrogan and Elizabeth Fritz McGrogan. Frank was employed by the former B.J. Tamasy Plumbing and Heating Contracting. He retired from the U.S. Steel National Tube Works, in McKeesport, where he worked as a craneman. He was a member of the Holy Family Church in West Newton and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a former lector at the church. He was a former member of the Latin Choir and a former member of the West Newton Community Singers. He was a veteran of the Navy, having served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Krebs, Ann Sichina, Katherine Gebert and Margaret McClintock. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Rita Morgan McGrogan; eight children, Dr. Frank McGrogan and wife, Eleanor, of Mt. Pleasant, Dr. Martin McGrogan, of Rostraver Township, Cecilia Cunningham and her husband, Patrick, of West Newton, John M. McGrogan, of Snellville, Ga., Mary Larimer and husband, Kirk, of Peters Township, Marcella Parks and husband, Jeffrey, of Freeport, Dr. Rita McGrogan and her husband, Jeffrey Hoffman, of Harmony, and Jane R. Spath and husband, Michael, of Woodbine, Md.; 24 grandchildren; and his faithful canine companion, "Buddy." Frank was known for his homemade pies. He loved classical and 40's music. He said His rosaries daily and was devoted to his church and family.
Friends will be received from noon until 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at the RICHARD F. DODSON MEMORIAL HOME, 213 Main St., West Newton, PA 15089. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Holy Family Church in West Newton, with the Rev. James Bump as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to the Holy Family Church in West Newton.
