George H. Blake

1934 - 2023

George H. Blake, 88, of Lower Burrell, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at Quality Life Services, Apollo. He was born in German Township May 5, 1934, to the late John Sapper Sr. and Marguerite Hewitt Blake and had been a resident of Lower Burrell since moving from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1965. George was an Army veteran and ordained elder of Grace Community Presbyterian Church, Lower Burrell. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Alcoa and in retirement, enjoyed owning a TCBY with his late wife. George liked traveling and camping with family and friends, golfing, bowling and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Without doubt, he loved his family most and was such a fun, kind and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his two children, Scott (Michelle) Blake and Renee (Eric) Peters; grandchildren, Maurielle (Thomas) De Hoog, Alyssa Blake, Garrett Blake, Nicolette (Jonathan) Kotek, Katlyn (Dan) Smith, Rebekah (Anthony) Brine, Caleb (Lindsay) Peters and Andrew Peters; great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Griffin Smith, Luca and Sofia Brine and Avery and Aubrey Kotek; a sister, Nancy Solomon; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean H. Blake, on Aug. 18, 2022; and siblings, Katherine Crutchman and Virginia Wardle. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday March 1, at THE RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2. Burial with military honors by the Vandergrift Veteran's Honor Guard will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. www.RusiewiczFH.com.
