Gordon Strong

Gordon Bryson Strong (Skip), 92, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of New Kensington, PA, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at the VA Medical Center Lake Nona in Orlando, FL, surrounded by his wife and son. He was born on May 10, 1932, in Tarentum, PA, a son of the late Lawrence Elmer and Evelyn (Davis) Strong of Clearwater, FL, formerly of New Kensington, PA. Prior to his retirement, Skip was employed by PPG Industries for 34 years, starting in Creighton, PA, and retiring in Ford City, PA, and was previously employed by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Arnold, PA. Skip served in the U.S. Army as an MP with the rank of Corporal during the Korean War, stationed with the 520 MP Division at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) in Paris, France. Skip graduated from Ken High in New Kensington and attended the University of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Orlando, FL, and previously the United Methodist Church of New Kensington, PA. He enjoyed spending time with his family and followed the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pitt Panthers, and Penn State Nittany Lions. In addition to his parents, Skip was predeceased by his sister, Barbara JoAnn Strong Peck and husband, John Peck of Gonzales, TX; and sister-in-law, Jacquline McGregor Wolford and husband, Jack Wolford of Lower Burrell, PA. Skip is survived by his loving wife, Judith Evelyn McGregor Strong, of 53 years; his son, Robert Gordon Strong, and wife, Elaine Lee Strong of Orlando, FL; his brother, Lawrence Melvin Strong, and wife, Cindy, of Palmyra, PA; his nephew, Kevin Strong; and his extended family, Anthony and Carol McGregor Purpura, and their daughters, Elwood and Carol McGregor, and their son and daughters, Gwendolyn McGregor Becker and husband, James E Becker II (passed) and son; sons of Jack and Jacquline McGregor Wolford. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, Feb 7, 2025, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Arrangements being made by PAGE THEUS FUNERAL HOME, Leesburg, FL.
