Ian Merendino

2001 - 2024

Ian A. Merendino, 23, of Greensburg, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2024. He was born January 9, 2001, in Latrobe, son of Michael and Angela Merendino, of Greensburg. Ian was a kind, old soul, passionate, and motivated by physical and intellectual challenges. His smile, intelligence, humor, and attitude were infectious. If you were anywhere near him, you would hear his booming voice and become part of his orbit. His life was full of many accomplishments: Greensburg Salem HS 2019 honor society and many scholastic awards, Eagle Scout, lifeguard, NROTC, and most importantly to him, his seaworthy credentials to work on super yachts. He had countless hobbies and mastered skills including: fishing, fly tying, boating, skiing, gardening, investing, and taking money from the casino. He was truly living his best life and dream as a deckhand/engineer on a super yacht, when an unthinkable accident on deck took him from us. Hearts are broken, flags are at half mast, and many people who considered him part of their family are navigating through this tragedy and missing a young man who was clearly one of the best of us. The days pass happily with Ian wherever his ship sails. Ian was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Tony Merendino' his maternal grandmother, Marie Halley; an uncle and aunt, Butch and Margie Halley. In addition to his parents, Ian is survived by his paternal grandmother, Rose Marie Merendino; an aunt, Alison (Danny) Flickinger, of Derry; an uncle, Matthew (Missie) Merendino, of Belleville, OH; and several cousins. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. The family requests no flowers.
