James Butcher Obituary

James E. Butcher, 84, of Delmont, formerly of North Huntingdon and Claridge, died Monday, April 11, 2016, in Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. He was born Sept. 14, 1931, in Claridge, to the late Martin and Cecilia (Turk) Butcher. Jim was a Korean War Navy veteran and was retired from Westinghouse after 35 years of employment. He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church and had been a longtime member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon. While at St. Agnes, Jim was a choir member for many years, was past president of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and ran its food bank. He was a 50-year member and past president of SNPJ in Claridge, and was the last surviving member of the Claridge Slovenian Male Quartet. Jim enjoyed gardening, was an avid bowler and golfer, and loved spending time with his grandsons. Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Joanne Butcher, and cherished grandsons, Benjamin and Timothy, of Hewitt, N.J.; sister, Catherine Prince, of Delmont; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, LaVerne and James Irwin, of Phoenix; and many nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maxene; and siblings, Martin and John Butcher and Evelyn Skandera.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at LINDSAY-JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., 3343 Route 130, Harrison City, 724-744-2721, where a vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016, in St. Barbara Catholic Church, Harrison City. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Barbara Cemetery, Claridge.
