James McClure Obituary

James Nelson McClure III of The Villages, FL, passed away April 28, 2025. He was born July 7, 1938, in Elizabeth, the only son of Irene and James N. McClure. He graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School and went on to earn an economics degree from Saint Vincent College. While in his senior year, he took on a seasonal position as a laborer at nearby Seven Springs Mountain Resort. Upon his graduation in 1960, he returned to the resort as one of the few full-time employees. This was the start of a forty-year career and marked the beginning of what would become his life's passion. In 1968 he was promoted to Vice President and General Manager. He was truly devoted to his job and everyone he worked with. His mantra was, "It isn't work if you love what you do." In 2000 he would retire with the title of President and CEO. It was at this time he married the love of his life, Dr. Bennie Harsanyi, and together they relocated to The Villages, FL., where his love of golf, great friendships, and life flourished. My father lived his life to the fullest. He worked hard, played hard, and loved his family and friends even harder. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and two daughters, Cathleen and Jennifer McClure. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dr. Bennie Harsanyi; his daughter, Colleen Pritts, and her husband, Troy; four grandchildren, Kiley Mister (Chuck), J.T. Pritts (Meredith), Logan Pritts, and Aaron Pritts; and two great-grandchildren, Elias Pritts and Boone Mister; along with many, many wonderful friends. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for you to say a toast in Jim's name and share a memory or two. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Condolences to you and your family Colleen. I worked for Seven Springs for 32 years in the dining room and in all that time your dad always had a smile on his face whenever he came in. He was a fair and respectful man. He leaves behind so many friends, too many to even county. Blessings to you and your family in this time of sadness. Helen Hamm

Sending my Deepest Sympathy to the Jim McClure Family. I used to be his baby sitter for his children Colleen and Kathleen. Jim was such a nice and friendly person like his mom. May God comfort his family at this difficult time.

"Uncle Jim" was like John Wayne to me. Honest, trust worthy, didn't stand for B.S., and lived life more fully than anyone I know. "True Grit". He lived a storied life, one that will forever be told. He was a mentor to many and a champion of living.
