Jessie Scott Obituary

Jessie Lee Scott, 93, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the Redstone Highlands Care Center in North Huntingdon. She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Great Neck, N.Y., the daughter of the late Arthur John Van der Ven and Jessie Lee Van der Ven. Her husband of 60 years, Hugh Wharton Scott, predeceased her and she was predeceased by her sisters, Jeanne and Aline. She is survived by two sons, Hugh Wharton Scott II and his wife, Elizabeth Hoke Scott, of Jackson, Wyo., and Thomas Allan Scott and his wife, Rebecca Smerkol Scott, of North Huntingdon; as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jessie was a loving wife and mother and was always a cheerful friend. She lived every day with a welcoming smile and laugh for everyone she met and knew. She was much loved by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at the Redstone Highlands Chapel in North Huntingdon with interment in Ft. Lauderdale. Arrangements by JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Jessie Lee Scott's name either to Redstone Highlands, 6 Garden Center Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601 or Heartland Hospice, 3520 Route 130, Irwin, PA 15642.
