John Galie Obituary

John A. Galie, 89, of Fairbank, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007. He was born July 4, 1918, in Ralph, Pa., a son of the late Gaetano and Argia Egidi Galie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nellie Mecco Galie, who passed away May 26, 2007; two brothers, Dominic and Carl Galie; and a daughter-in-law, Michelle Galie. John was employed for over 25 years by the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He also was a member of the Giuseppe Mazzini Lodge #231 SOI, and American Legion Post 0753 in New Salem. John was also a member of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. John is survived by a son, John A. Galie Jr., of Morgantown, W.Va.; two daughters, Linda Yantko and her husband, Bernard, of Uniontown, and Patrice Galie and her husband, Christopher Piwowar Sr., of Hopwood; three grandsons whom he adored, Nathan and Michael Galie and Brian Yantko; a great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth LaMoy, of Johnstown; a sister, Mary Stevelak, of Lakewood, Ohio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leonard and Louise Mecco, of Lemont Furnace; a sister-in-law, Violet Galie, of Fairbank; as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and until 10 a.m. Wednesday, the time of a blessing service, in the DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, 136 N. Gallatin Ave., Uniontown. A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10:30 a.m. in St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Kenneth G. Zaccagnini, V.F., as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, where full military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103. SOI rituals will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's name to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
