John P. Matis

1944 - 2023

John Paul Matis, 78, of Penn Township, formerly of Plum, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 1, 1944, in Plum, a son of the late Michael and Stella (Pietryka) Matis. John was a member of St. Barbara Roman Catholic Church in Harrison City. John enjoyed his camp in Tionesta with his grandson, Tyler, and his sons, but most of all, spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his two brothers, Matthew and Michael Matis. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Susan (Braun) Matis; his four sons, Matt W. (Chantal) Matis, Michael J. Matis, John P. (Lisa) Matis Jr. and Jeffrey M. Matis; sister, Genevieve Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was a proud grandfather of Tyler Matis and Ryleigh Kurtanic, who he loved so dearly. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont (724-468-1177). A blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, in the funeral home.
