Joseph J. ``Joe' Cremonese, 93, of Greensburg, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, in the Greensburg Care Center. He was born in Greensburg, June 4, 1909, a son of the late Vincenzo ``James' and Anine Gloria Cremonese. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral of Greensburg. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard, Headquarters Company, the 3rd Battalion and 110th Infantry. He retired from Carborundum Company of Latrobe in 1974. He was a member of the Hilltop Club, Quatro League, Fox Hill Club, Manapello Club and the Young Voter's Club of Greensburg. He was a former musician and a former member of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Barber Shop Singers. For several years after retirement, he operated a small custom machine shop in Greensburg. He was an avid bowler and golfer with three hole-in-one certificates. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Damato Cremonese; three brothers, Gaetano, Salvatore and Louis; four sisters, Antoinette, Clara Isabella DeBone, Anna Macko and Thelma Sofranko; and a grandson, Timothy Leonard. He is survived by a son, Joseph G. Cremonese and wife, Dorothea; a daughter, Anita Leonard and her husband, Larry; a son, David Cremonese and wife, Maureen, all of Greensburg; a daughter, Caroline Berg and her husband, John, of Boardman, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Daniel (Brother Placid, O.S.B.), of St. Vincent Monastery, Nicolo ``Nick' and wife, Mary, of Owings, Md., and Gerald ``Jerry' and wife, Olive, of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Mary Petroy and Josephine Kozak and husband, Andrew, of Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Kay Cremonese of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Joe at the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, 724-837-0020, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayers will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Entombment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Tim Leonard Cancer (TLC) Foundation, P.O. Box 1564, Greensburg, PA 15601, which assists individuals with life-threatening illnesses and provides scholarship assistance to local high school seniors.
