Joseph Thomas Obituary

Joseph Lloyd Thomas, 83, of Scottdale, passed away at 11:12 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at his residence. Joe was born Dec. 23, 1941, in Everson, a son of the late Henry L. and Emma Mae (Musgrove) Thomas. He married Shanley K. (Eichar) Thomas on Feb. 23, 1980, and she survives him. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He graduated from Scottdale High School in 1959 and was employed as a plumber and pipefitter, working as a member of the Plumber & Pipefitters Local #354, Youngwood. After his retirement, he worked with his brother, Henry, at Henry Thomas Mechanical Contracting. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and cheering on his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an active member of several social clubs in the community, where he made many friends and fond memories. Joe will be sadly missed by his loving family: his devoted wife of 45 years, Shanley K. (Eichar) Thomas; his children, Temple Williams (Jeremy), Tracy Showman (Arthur), Jim Coleman (Liz), and Sean McFarland (Jodi); his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Barbara Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Thomas; his brothers, John, Jesse, Harry, David, and Henry Thomas; and his sisters, Alverda Dugger, Ruth Wingrove, Reda Weimer, and Freda Dugger. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the hospice team and caregivers of Amedisys for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Pam Alakson, whose kindness, patience, and love brought great comfort to Joe and his family. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, in the funeral home chapel, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, with Pastor Brian Swan officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will be in Scottdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Love Lasts Forever!

Getting you to laugh was a chore but I did get one from time to time and those ones I will cherish forever. My days won’t be the same now but you will always have a special place in my heart ❤
