Joyce Kennedy

1946 - 2018

Joyce (Francis) Kennedy, 71, of Latrobe, passed away at her home Tuesday, March 20, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 18, 1946, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late John and Ruth (Shroyer) Francis. Joyce graduated from Seton Hill College in 1969 where she received her certificate in elementary education. She was an active member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish where she helped with the social club, annual Easter egg hunt and Night at the Races. She was currently employed by Fort Ligonier in their education department. She also formerly worked as a teacher, first at Greensburg Salem, and then for the Greensburg Diocese at the following churches: St. John's, St. Vincent, Holy Family and Holy Trinity. Joyce volunteered at Adelphoi Bingo and was co-founder of the Ya Ya Book Club. Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo and slots, reading books, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to watch them play soccer and other activities. She also enjoyed going on trips with her husband and family. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of over 49 years, Thomas W. Kennedy; two children, Jennifer DeCerb and her husband Brian, of Greensburg, and Thomas Kennedy and his wife Janine, of Mars; six grandchildren, Mia, Sofia, Gillian, Ian, Brody and Lola; and her mother-in-law, Ruth J. Kennedy.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Vincent Basilica, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, with interment to follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
