Juan Rodriguez Obituary

Juan Severino Rodriguez, 67, of Scottdale (East Huntingdon Township), passed away at 2:07 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2025, the first day of spring, in AHN, Forbes Hospital, Monroeville, after a courageous battle with stage four cancer. Juan was born Feb. 25, 1958, in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, the son of the late Juan M. and Celia (Perez) Rodriguez, who passed away in Sept. and March, 2019, respectively. He grew up in Rio de Janeiro until the age of 11, moving to Porrino, Spain, his parents' hometown. At 16 he immigrated to the U.S., joining his parents in Washington, D.C. He married Rebecca J. 'Becky' (Frey) Rodriguez on Sept. 19, 1998. Juan was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle 'Tio', coach, and friend to all who knew him. Juan's greatest joy was being a father, spending time, and making memories with his family. Juan enjoyed soccer and being a coach for the Scottdale Soccer Club at Kendi Soccer Field for over 15 years, where he coached all of his sons. Juan was a joy and fun to be around, and as a coach, he was always very entertaining for the spectators to watch. All the hand motions, singles, yelling out their names with his Spanish accent flair, and of course, you knew it was going downhill when he would take off his hat, throwing it down on the sidelines. Juan was an active member of the Alverton Center Bethel Church of God, where he enjoyed playing dartball with the men of the church. Juan's work history extended over 50 years, first as a dishwasher at the Army Navy Club in Washington, D.C., manager for People's Drug Store (later CVS), delivery driver for Schwan's, and concrete specialist for over 40 years, spending over 15 years with Gary Blair Concrete, of Irwin and his last two years with Kishmo Inc., of Apollo. Juan was a hard worker. If he worked with you, or for you, he would always call you Boss. Juan always smiled and shared his smile with everyone he met. Juan will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife of 26 years, Rebecca J. ' Becky' (Frey) Rodriguez; his children, Francisco Juan (mom Gladys), of Germantown, MD, Ronald Jacob, Andrew Thomas, Matthew Edward, and Celina Elizabeth Rodriguez, all at their family home in Scottdale; his siblings, Maria (John) Snelling, of Virginia, Avelina (Juan) Barerra, of Maryland, Jose (Kim) Rodriguez, of Virginia; his parents-in-law, Ron and Kathy (Ulery) Frey, of Alverton; sisters-in-law, Mandy (Brian) Stetz, of Zelienople, Trish (Javier) Cancino-Fierro, of Verona; nieces; and nephews, Paulo, Diana Barerra, of Maryland, George (Tram), Stephen (Pamela), Richard (Sara) Snelling, all of Virginia, Daniel (Lyndsay) Rodriguez, of Virginia, Cristina (Rob) Foster, of Florida, Abby Garrity, Drew and Brooke Stetz of Zelionople. He also loved all of his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant daughter Kaitlyn Marie Rodriguez in Dec. 2000. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale ([http://www.fergusonfunerals.com).] (http://www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home chapel. Additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2025, in the Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2025, with Pastors Jason Kramer and Lee Kline co-officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will be in Alverton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to assist the family may be made to Rebecca Rodriguez, in care of the funeral home.

Oh my dear family, my heart breaks for your loss, but it rejoices for heaven's gain. There will be such a hole at the family reunion without Juan's quick witted banter keeping Bill in line. We love you guys and know that we're here if you need anything.
