Kathleen Mary Wood, 71, of Jeannette, went to be with her heavenly Father Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, after her battle with cancer. She was born June 24, 1942, in Monessen, and graduated from Monessen High School in 1959. Kathleen will always be fondly remembered by her family and friends "as the dearest mother, the most devoted wife and best friend to her sisters. She was remarkable, always so good, unselfish and kind. Few on this earth were her equal. Always loving, thoughtful, gentle and true, she was honorable and upright in all her ways. She enjoyed her family and her home. She was a generous, loving, supportive woman who always put others before herself. Possessing a true servant's heart, Kathleen faithfully cared and nurtured for her family making them her priority in life. The lives she formed and that were touched by her love will be forever grateful for her continued love and guidance. She will always be remembered and forever missed." Married for 52 years, Kathleen and Jack Dempsey Wood Sr. raised their six children and a grandchild. Surviving are Jack Dempsey Wood Jr., of Virginia Beach, Va., Judith Diane Wood of Richeyville, Pa., James David Wood of West Virginia, Joann Denise Wood Matruski of Virginia Beach, Va., Janet Dolores Wood of Bristow, Va., Jacob Daniel Wood of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kathleen Wood of Jeannette; grandchildren, Jack III, Jesse, Sarah, Cole, Julia, Emma, James, Ethan, Sarah, Mason, Isabelle, Mackenna and Maddox; brother, James, of Centerville, Va.; and sisters, Carol Voelker and Elizabeth Mazur, both of Monessen. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Andrew and Isabelle Hotochin; and her brothers, Andrew and Robert Hotochin. A celebration of her life will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., Family Owned and Operated as a Member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where her loved ones will welcome family and friends.
