Leanne Griffith Obituary

Leanne L. Griffith, 67, of Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022. She was born Oct. 10, 1954, in Philipsburg, daughter of the late Early Lee Files and Martha Prudence Guerrant Files. Leanne had a beautiful and generous spirit. She deeply loved everyone around her, giving her time and energy to others as a humble volunteer, leader and educator. Dan fell in love with her at first sight while she was volunteering as a guitarist at a senior center. She encouraged a love of learning, art and science in her children and grandchildren. Leanne taught science at Indiana Middle School and every subject to homebound students through the Marion Center School District. She always gravitated towards helping the people most in need. Leanne put the needs of others first and was a caring and loving individual. On top of the non-stop role of working on the family farm for 20 years in Indiana County, she worked for the Presbyterian Church of Marion. Throughout her career, Leanne was a 4-H leader of the tractor, sewing and robotics clubs, as well as a scout leader. She continued educating and advocating for the environmental sciences with the Westmoreland Conservation District and as a grant writer for Smart Growth and Penn State University. Through all her generous work and a lifetime of service, her favorite occupation was that of wife, mother and grandma. Leanne was most proud of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathy Johnstonbaugh. Surviving are her loving husband, Daniel Griffith; daughter, Jessica (Kyle) Payne; sons, Chris (Clara) Griffith and Sam (Valerie) Griffith; she was a beloved Gigi to her grandsons, Ezra, Micah and George Griffith; brother, Roger Files; and a large and loving extended family including her niece, Robbie O'Quinn. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in the funeral home with the Rev. Colleen Griffith officiating. For online condolences and information, please visit www.kepplegraft.com. Leanne was also a tough and courageous woman who gained three more years of life by undergoing a liver transplant from her daughter. She was a strong advocate for living organ donation and her family would like to continue her good work. In lieu of flowers, contributions to support donor families like the Griffiths can be made to Thomas E. Leanne and Dan were the leaders of the 4H Lego Robotics Club which my boys attended for a time. So thankful for the patience, understanding and leadership they both showed to my kids. Zach just started college on Friday and is majoring in Computer Science and Game Development. He's been working as a video game developer for a small indie game company in Canada remotely for several years. Sean is entering his Senior year of high school. He will be on the Robotics team at HS. He is thinking about Graphic Design and web development but also has a head for numbers. They are definitely coming into their own and I will always be so thankful for their time with Leanne and Dan where they could begin to learn who they are and begin to develop the confidence to soar at whatever they choose to do. God bless you both. We will always hold a special place in our hearts for you both and know that Heaven gained a beautiful angel.

How to describe what Leanne meant to me and everyone who met her? She was a bright star, always shining her light on everyone she met. She was uncommonly kind, loving and loyal to her friends and family. I am glad to have known her and will miss her deeply.

Brian me and the boys (Zach and Sean) were so saddened to hear of Leanne's passing. She is such a beautiful soul and has touched so many lives. We are so grateful to all Leanne and Dan did with the 4-H Robotics Club. You all were so patient, kind and giving of your time and support to everyone. I know my boys and Brian and I will never forget that. Those experiences helped plant seeds that our children our still using and will continue to use in the future and the memories are priceless. I also remember how loving and caring Leanne was to me when my father passed away, with a warm hug and beautiful caring and loving words. I can only imagine how many more lives Leanne touched. We hope all of the beautiful memories carry Dan and the family through this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Much love. The Smiths

I am a better human because I was fortunate to know, work and share a friendship with Leanne. From the first day I met her, I knew she was put in my path for a reason. What a wonderful soul! One of the most genuine and selfless people. My heartfelt sympathy to you Dan and the whole family. Be proud of the woman, wife, mother, grandma and friend she was. So many will greatly miss her. She was so very very proud of all of you - we shared lots of laughs and wonderful conversations about family.
Peace and Prayers Always.
