Marjorie Shannon

1940 - 2023

Marjorie "Margie" (Hoffer) Shannon, 82, of Parks Township, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, in Good Samaritan Hospice Unit in Cabot, surrounded by her loving family. Born Nov. 8, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Holenchick) Hoffer. She lived in Leechburg and Parks Township all her life and was a 1958 graduate of Leechburg High School. Margie was a co-owner with her late husband, Bud, and a bookkeeper of Shannon Auto Sales in Parks Township for many years. She was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift, a member of Catholic Daughters of America and assisted with spaghetti dinners at the church. Margie was also a life member of the Sokol Club in Leechburg and attended the Leechburg Senior Center. Margie, known to them as "Baba," loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed visits from her friends and neighbors, spending time outside and watching birds from her back porch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin L. "Bud" Shannon, April 17, 2020; infant brother, Joseph, and brothers, Steve, Louis, John, and Joseph; and sisters, Ann Mango, Mary Kish and Josephine "Tootsie" Cupka. Margie is survived by her sons, James Patrick Shannon, of Parks Township, and John Paul (Mary Jane) Shannon, of Parks Township; grandchildren, Nicole, Julie and Sara, of John, and Sadie and Sophie and Samuel, of James; great-grandson, Keis Masterson; sister, Carole Yesensky, of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; family friend, Mike Cravener, of Tarentum; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 300 Market St., Leechburg. Parting prayers will begin at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023, in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow and be celebrated in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift at 11 a.m. with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant.
