Mark Vukelich Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Mark Allen Vukelich of West Deer Township, PA on March 2, 2024. Mark, aged 52, was a cherished father, son, brother, friend, and teacher at Deer Lakes High School. A lifelong resident of West Deer Township, Mark was born on October 30, 1971, to Marco and Ruth (McDade) Vukelich, and grew up surrounded by neighborhood friends in Russellton. Marks greatest accomplishments were his beloved children: Ethan (24), a Second Lieutenant in the US Space Force, Tessa (21), a senior at the University of Pittsburgh, Aaron (19), a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, and Justine (16), a sophomore at Baldwin High School. They brought him immense pride and joy, not only in their accomplishments, but in their outstanding character, compassion, and love for others. His legacy will live on in each of them. Besides his children, Mark is also survived by his mother Ruth; sister Cindy (Vukelich) Stevens; brother-in-law Jeff Stevens; two nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Marco. A 1989 graduate of Deer Lakes High School, Mark went on to earn his teaching credentials at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and continued his education at Slippery Rock University, and the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating from Edinboro, Mark returned to Deer Lakes to share his love of history and civics. He was proud to teach Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics and US Government/Economics. He had an in-depth knowledge and passion about historical events and politics and inspired many students over his 28-year tenure with the district. His hope was that his students would come away from his classes with the knowledge that would inspire them to be productive members of society and active participants in the political process. Mark gathered many friends along the way- many of whom have been with him throughout his lifetime. He was well-known in the community, a member of the Order of Owls Nest #1091 of Russellton, loved watching the Steelers, golfing, and was always willing to help a friend in need. Mark will be missed by all who truly knew him well. While we mourn the loss of a good man, we also celebrate his life, his enduring impact on his children and family, and the countless lives he touched throughout his teaching career. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respect, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, March 8, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at Adam Siemianowski Funeral Home, 179 Starr Road, Russellton, PA 15076.
