Michael Holupka, 92, of Herminie, and current resident of Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born March 25, 1922, in Slickville, son of the late Mike and Mary (Augustine) Holupka. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hilda Mary (Kaus) Holupka; and two brothers, John and Charles Holupka. Mike was member of the Holy Ghost Orthodox Church in Slickville. He was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded the French Croix de Guerre. Mike retired as a labor market analyst from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. He was a member of the VFW Post 8427 in Herminie and charter member of the Ernest M. Kralik Post 18 of the American Legion of Slickville. He held various positions on the district, state and national levels of the American Legion. He was a member of the Sewickley Township Volunteer Fire Department No 1. His memberships also include Westmoreland County Fireman's Association, Mohawks, Westmoreland County Fire Chiefs Association, Sewickley Township, Emergency Management. Mike had also been an assistant scout master for more than 15 years and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Mike is survived by his two sons, Michael J. (Constance Welty) Holupka, of Butler, and Stephen C. (Lynn) Holupka, of Hillsboro, Mo.; four special grandchildren, Grace (John) Jerasa, Katherine, Donald and Sophia Holupka; sister-in-law, Esther Holupka, of Saxonburg; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. Parastas services will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Father Bob Popichak officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. The firemen will meet for services at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
